So, it’s no secret that Molly is an amazing cook. She’s got quite a talent for finding fantastic recipes, making them better, and then executing them with tons of flavor, pizzaz, and love. Tickles and Crawling

GAFCON Final Statement

For those of you who are Anglican, you may have heard about the Global Anglican Futures Conference (GAFCON) which concluded after a week of prayer and discussions in Jerusalem. The aim of the conference was to “preserve and promote the truth and power of the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ as we Anglicans have received it.” It’s in reaction to the past decade of decisions made by western Anglican dioceses. Their final statement was just released a few hours ago and can be found by clicking HERE.

UPDATE: It seems that each individual has their own opinion of GAFCON, and I think the best reaction piece is written by N.T. Wright and can be read HERE.

Saying Goodbye

This is our last week in San Francisco and we are caught between packing everything up before the truck comes, and trying to soak in the beauties of the west coast before we take off. But more than this amazing city, we’re going to miss some really dear friends. Here are some things we’ve done the past week:

Hung out with buddies from Apple who’ve moved out here as well.
Drove up the Muir Woods.
Ate a very fine dinner with Tim, our boss, and his wife.
Bought some local San Francisco art to remind us of our time.
Put all our belongings back into boxes.
Our church small group threw us a going-away party as well.
Planned a roadtrip across the country. (Molly is flying to Kansas with Maren. My buddy, Dave Sley, will be driving with me from SF to KS!)

Greetings Friends and Family,

How are you? Our little family is doing quite well. Last Sunday was very special for us. Not only was it Mother’s Day and Pentecost, but it was the day in which we baptized our little Maren Joy! It was marvelous to celebrate her coming into the Family of God. We hope and pray that as she grows, this gift of Grace will become more and more her own.

The last time we wrote, we told you that we were discerning what to do for the summer, and whether or not to continue our work in San Francisco. “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” This Frederick Beuchner quote has been echoing within my head the past few weeks. It’s comforting because it assures me that my passions have something to do with my calling. I’m not to be overwhelmed by the throbbing needs of this broken world. God has made me finite, with finite gifts and finite abilities, and I trust that he has a place for me.

After spending a great deal of time thinking about our future, Molly and I have made the decision to leave InnerCHANGE. We adore this place very much, however we realize that if we were to stay in this position, other desires and passions that God has placed within us would sleep. Like I said before, InnerCHANGE is a good place and we will always hope that there will be others who will join their ranks as a Christian order among the poor. They reach communities around the world who are ignored and forgotten by society and even the church. Some of you have been financially participating in our work these past few months, and if you would like to continue to support InnerCHANGE, then please let us know and we can tell you about some specific areas of need.

As for our tiny family, we will be leaving InnerCHANGE and San Francisco at the end of June and heading to Kansas City, which is where my family lives. For a long time, I have been dreaming of attending seminary, and we want to spend a season discerning if this is indeed something the Lord wants me to pursue. “Discerning” doesn’t pay too well, so I’ll be looking for a job in Kansas; if any of you have any ideas, then please let me know! If seminary is something God wants for me, then I would aim to enroll in Fall ’09.

We love each of you so very much and are so grateful for your encouragement and support while we lived as missionaries with InnerCHANGE. There are many lessons about the world, ourselves, the poor, and God that we would not have learned without your support. Our hearts have grown; and so we thank you. We have much to do as we prepare to move across the country, and so we ask that you would continue to support our family until the end of June. Finally, we ask for prayer. We have a lot of decisions to make in the upcoming months and want to make sure they’re bathed in prayer. Please pray for our move, our school research, and for all the transitions we’ll experience. Also pray for our marriage; that Molly and I will lean on each other for encouragement in the midst of much stress. We need your prayer. Each of you on this list are people who have touched us in very dear way. Thank you again for your love.
